Ask every customer, not just the ones you think are happy. Google doesn’t allow picking and choosing who gets asked, and never offer a discount or gift in return for a review.

Getting more Google reviews (the right way)

  • Ask straight after the job, while they’re happy and it’s fresh.
  • Send the direct link, so it takes one tap. Most people won’t go hunting for your listing.
  • Ask everyone. Google doesn’t allow “review gating”, which means only asking customers you expect to be happy.
  • Never pay or reward a review, and never write your own. It breaks Google’s rules and the ACCC takes fake reviews seriously.
  • Reply to every review, good or bad. A short, genuine thank-you is plenty.

Common questions

How do I get my Google review link?

Search your business name on Google while signed in to the account that manages it, then choose “Ask for reviews” and copy the link. It usually starts with g.page/r/.

Can I offer a discount for a review?

No. Offering a reward for reviews breaks Google’s rules and can mislead customers. Just ask nicely.

Should I text or email?

Text usually gets the quickest response from tradie customers. Email works well for bigger jobs or business customers. You can use both.
