Can mine be repaired?
  • Usually yes, if the hole is in the main tread area
  • Damage to the sidewall or shoulder normally means a new tyre
  • Driving a long way flat can wreck the tyre inside, so pull over early

How to read your tyre size

It’s printed on the side of your tyre, and on the placard inside the driver’s door. Type yours in, then tap each part to see what it means.

What your size works out to

Worked out from the numbers on the tyre, so real tyres vary by a few millimetres between brands. Replacement tyres should match or beat the load index and speed rating on your car’s tyre placard. Load index and speed symbols follow the standard industry tables.

Tread Right is run by Steve and his son Mitch. We’re not a franchise, so we stock the tyre that suits you, not the one we’re told to sell.

If your tyres have another 10,000 km in them, we’ll tell you, and we’ll see you when they’re actually due. That’s how we’ve kept Geelong drivers coming back.

How long does it take to fit four tyres?

Usually under an hour for four tyres, including balancing. Add a bit more if you’re having an alignment done at the same time.

Do I need to book?

You can drop in, but a quick call or text first means we can have your size on the shelf and a bay ready when you arrive.

How do I know if I really need new tyres?

Try our tread and age check above, or bring it in. If there’s life left in them, we’ll say so. The legal minimum is 1.5 mm of tread, and grip in the wet drops off well before that.

I don’t know my tyre size. What do I do?

It’s on the sidewall of the tyre (something like 205/55R16 91V) and on the tyre placard, usually inside the driver’s door jamb. Snap a photo of either and text it to us.

Should I replace two tyres or all four?

Replacing in pairs on the same axle is the minimum. Many tyre makers recommend fitting the newer pair to the rear for stability in the wet. Some all-wheel-drive cars need all four matched, so tell us what you drive.

Do I need an alignment with new tyres?

Not always. If your old tyres wore evenly and the car drives straight, you may not. If they wore on one edge, it’s worth doing so the new set doesn’t go the same way.

Can my puncture be fixed, or do I need a new tyre?

Punctures in the main tread area can usually be repaired properly from the inside. Damage in the sidewall or shoulder, or a tyre that’s been driven on flat, usually means a new one.

Do you do 4WD and light truck tyres?

Yes. All-terrains, highway terrains and light truck tyres with the right load rating for what your ute or 4WD really carries.
